That both its people and their language are known to English-speakers as Dutch, a name derived from the old language named Diets. The old low-frankish dialects were very familiar to the 'low-german' dialects that were spoken in the most parts of northern Europe. Together they were referred to as 'nederduits' (low-german) and the language in the area of the low countries was called 'diets', which explains the name 'Dutch' in English.

AIRBORN MUSEUM


The Dutch Water Museum "The Netherlands Water Museum is a modern interactive museum which covers all aspects of fresh water in the Netherlands and also the rest of the world..."
Operation Market Garden, Battle of Arnhem, September 1944. The Museum shows the course of events during the Battle of Arnhem. It took place in September 1944 and covered the area between the centre of Arnhem and Ede.
The 'Battle for the Rhine Bridge' was part of the operation 'Market Garden'. British, American and Polish airborne forces were to capture the bridges over rivers and waterways from the Belgian border to Arnhem.



Hattum Town
The small town of Hattem situated on the banks of the river IJssel is well worth a visit.
